• Zhang Jian 章剑

    Zhang Jian was born in Beijing in 1968 and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1993. He now lives and works in Beijing. Influenced by the Impressionists, especially Manet and Serov, Zhang Jian's early works were obsessed with depicting external light and outdoor subjects, presenting pure, introspective and quiet daily life. 2000 onwards, he transitioned from Impressionism to working with photographs, with large flat areas and blurred treatment reminiscent of Gerhard Richter.
